The Dock You Need Decides Aquabus or False Creek Ferries
Only Aquabus stops at Hornby Street; only False Creek Ferries reaches Sunset Beach and the Maritime Museum. Six docks are shared, and bike rules differ.

Take Aquabus if one end of your trip is Hornby Street. Take False Creek Ferries if one end is Sunset Beach or the Maritime Museum at Vanier Park. Those three docks are the only ones that belong to a single operator. Granville Island, David Lam Park, Yaletown, Stamp’s Landing, Spyglass and Plaza of Nations appear on both dock lists, so for those pairs you compare the route, possible transfers, bicycle and mobility rules, and then join the right queue.
Aquabus and False Creek Ferries are separate passenger-ferry companies on False Creek. Destination Vancouver’s water-taxi guide compares the two; neither is SeaBus, which crosses Burrard Inlet.

Hornby Street Means Aquabus, Sunset Beach Means False Creek Ferries
Aquabus publishes an eight-dock network that includes Hornby Street but not Sunset Beach or the Maritime Museum. See the Aquabus dock map.
False Creek Ferries lists nine pickup and drop-off locations, including Sunset Beach and the Maritime Museum. Its planner puts the Sunset Beach dock at the foot of Thurlow Street. See the False Creek Ferries trip planner.
| Your trip includes | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Hornby Street | Aquabus | Only Aquabus lists it |
| Sunset Beach | False Creek Ferries | Dock at the foot of Thurlow Street |
| Maritime Museum or Vanier Park | False Creek Ferries | Only False Creek Ferries lists it |
| A shared dock at both ends | Compare both | Route may not be equally direct |
| Eastern Olympic Village area | Verify the landing | Operators use different stop names |
| A bicycle | Aquabus first | Aquabus calls its docks bicycle-friendly |
| A wheelchair or mobility device | Confirm directly | Depends on dock, vessel and device |
Six Docks Appear on Both Lists, and One More Nearly Does
| Dock | Aquabus | False Creek Ferries |
|---|---|---|
| Hornby Street | Yes | — |
| Sunset Beach | — | Yes |
| Maritime Museum at Vanier Park | — | Yes |
| Granville Island | Yes | Yes |
| David Lam Park | Yes | Yes |
| Yaletown | Yes | Yes |
| Stamp’s Landing | Yes | Yes |
| Spyglass | Yes | Yes |
| Plaza of Nations | Yes | Yes |
| Eastern Olympic Village area | “The Village” | “Olympic Village” |
Spelling differences such as “Stamps Landing” versus “Stamp’s Landing”, or “Spyglass Place” versus “Spyglass”, do not change the choice. The eastern end does need care. Aquabus calls its stop The Village; the False Creek Ferries dock selector says Olympic Village; visitor material often says Science World for the same area. Do not assume all three labels mark the same landing. Match your operator’s map to the spot where you actually want to finish.
A dock on both lists does not guarantee a direct sailing between any two of them. At Granville Island, Aquabus places its dock between the Public Market and the Arts Club Theatre. Whichever company you choose, find that operator’s sign, landing and queue rather than boarding whatever boat arrives next.
Four Common Trips, Resolved
Hornby Street to Granville Island. Aquabus. Hornby Street is on its dock list and absent from the False Creek Ferries trip planner. Check the sailing pattern from Hornby Street before walking down.
Granville Island to the Maritime Museum or Vanier Park. False Creek Ferries. The Maritime Museum landing is its exclusive dock. At Granville Island, join the False Creek Ferries queue, not the Aquabus one.
Yaletown to Granville Island. Either operator, because both publish docks at Yaletown and Granville Island. Compare the departure point, the current route and any transfer rather than hunting for an overall winner.
Sunset Beach to anywhere on False Creek. False Creek Ferries. Its Sunset Beach pickup at the foot of Thurlow Street makes it the practical choice whenever that stretch of waterfront is one end of the trip.
Granville Island alone never settles the comparison because both companies serve it. The other endpoint, plus any bicycle or mobility requirement, decides.
Wheelchairs and Mobility Devices Need a Direct Confirmation
An accessible route, an accessible vessel and an accessible dock are three different promises. A route can include accessible infrastructure without every boat-and-dock pairing suiting every passenger.
Aquabus promotes wheelchair-accessible routes but says most, not all, of its boats and docks are wheelchair accessible. Before travelling, give Aquabus your origin and destination, preferred sailing time, the type and dimensions of your device, whether you need to stay in it, and any boarding help you need. The Aquabus site is the starting point, but its general accessibility wording is not confirmation for a particular sailing.
For False Creek Ferries, Destination Vancouver reports that collapsible mobility devices may be accommodated when the passenger can manage one or two steps. Anyone who must remain in a wheelchair should ask the operator whether the intended dock, vessel and sailing can work. Treat these as questions to settle directly, not conditions to infer from a label.
Bicycles Point to Aquabus; Dogs and Strollers Need a Question
Aquabus is the better starting point for a bicycle trip because its dock page says all its docks are bicycle-friendly. Ask Aquabus about the current bicycle charge, the vessel type required and capacity for your intended departure. Bicycle-friendly docks are not guaranteed bicycle space on a given boat.
Destination Vancouver reports that False Creek Ferries does not accommodate bicycles. That is tourism-organization guidance rather than a policy stated on the operator’s trip-planning page, so confirm it directly before building a cycling itinerary around the ferry.
Destination Vancouver says dogs on False Creek Ferries should be dry, leashed and kept at a safe distance from other passengers. Ask either company about folding, carrying, leash or carrier rules and space limits, especially at busy times. Stroller acceptance is not evidence of wheelchair accessibility.
Tickets: Walk-Up Is Standard, Online Purchase Is Not a Reservation
False Creek Ferries describes its service as walk-up with no reservations required. You wait at the dock for the next ferry and pay the operator by cash or card, or pay online through the trip planner.
Aquabus sells tickets online in advance. The published ticket links do not establish that an online purchase reserves a seat on a specific timed departure, so do not assume it does; check the ticket terms or ask Aquabus.
Do not decide between the companies on a remembered single-fare or day-pass comparison. Fares and products change, and a fair comparison needs complete current prices for your exact itinerary. Destination Vancouver notes that a day pass for one operator does not work on the other. Confirm payment methods with the company you chose rather than assuming another Vancouver transit service’s rules apply.
Before You Walk to the Dock
Match the exact dock name to your operator’s map or trip planner, and check whether your eastern endpoint is shown as The Village, Olympic Village or Science World. Confirm the route and any transfer, since shared endpoints do not guarantee a direct sailing. Check the first and last useful sailing for your specific dock rather than a network-wide hours range, and look for current service notices for that dock and route. At Granville Island, find the sign and queue for your company. Settle whether you will pay the operator or use an online ticket. Repeat the check for the return leg if it uses a different dock or departure.
For a bicycle, ask whether the vessel can take it, whether space is available and whether a charge applies. Hours and service differ by dock, route and season, so use the individual operator pages before leaving. Once the dock is settled, what remains is verifying the route, sailing and boarding conditions for that one trip.
