What Is an Airport Transfer? Choose Your YVR Arrival Ride
An airport transfer gets you between the airport and your accommodation. Compare YVR’s train, taxi, ride app and shuttle options before booking.

An airport transfer is transport between an airport and your hotel, accommodation or another destination, in either direction. It is separate from your flight.
On a hotel or travel-booking page, “airport transfer” may mean an arranged car or shuttle service. In broader trip planning, your airport journey could also be by taxi, ride app or public transit. The phrase alone does not mean the ride is free, private or included in your room price.
For Vancouver, you do not need to book a private transfer simply because you are arriving at Vancouver International Airport (YVR). Start by comparing the Canada Line with a door-to-door ride.
Which YVR transfer fits your stay?
| Option | Choose it when… | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Canada Line train | Your accommodation is conveniently reached from a station and you can manage your luggage | It connects YVR with downtown Vancouver in under 30 minutes; that is the train journey, not your full airport-to-hotel time. |
| Taxi | You want to reach the hotel entrance without arranging a driver in advance | YVR’s taxi stands operate first come, first served. Trips from YVR within its fare-zone map use zone fares. |
| Uber or Lyft | You prefer to request a door-to-door ride through an app | Both are authorized at YVR. Check the price estimate and follow the app’s pickup directions. |
| Hotel shuttle | Your particular hotel confirms that it provides one | Check operating hours, how to request it and the pickup point—not just whether the hotel advertises “airport access.” |
The airport’s Canada Line guide confirms the downtown journey time and elevator access. Its taxi guide, ride-app guide and hotel-shuttle directory explain the other options.
For a downtown stay, check the train-to-hotel walk first. A short, manageable walk makes the Canada Line a sensible starting choice. Heavy bags, mobility needs or an awkward final connection are reasons to compare a direct ride instead. Choosing a car-free downtown base can simplify both arrival and the rest of your stay.
For a late-night arrival, check the train schedule: the Canada Line does not run all night. YVR lists the N10 NightBus as the public-transit alternative when it is closed. See the schedule links in YVR’s transit guide.
Where to go after collecting your bags
At YVR’s main Domestic and International terminals:
- Train: follow Canada Line signs. YVR-Airport station is between the terminals, with elevator access.
- Taxi: use the official stands at Domestic or International Arrivals on Level 2.
- Ride app: follow Ride App signs to the designated Level 2 arrivals pickup area. YVR advises collecting your luggage before requesting a ride.
- Hotel shuttle: YVR lists pickup areas outside Domestic and International Departures on Level 3, with direct-dial hotel phones on that level.
These locations are detailed in YVR’s public-transit, taxi, ride-app and courtesy-shuttle guides.
For train budgeting, TransLink lists a $6.50 YVR Airport AddFare as of October 25, 2026, on top of the regular fare for stored-value and contactless trips leaving YVR for downtown. It also applies to single-use tickets and DayPasses bought at Sea Island stations, including YVR-Airport. Some passes and tickets are exempt; journeys to the airport do not incur this surcharge. See TransLink’s AddFare rules.
Before paying for an arranged transfer
Confirm whether the quoted service is private or shared, one-way or return, and priced per person or per vehicle. Ask for the exact drop-off address, luggage allowance, meeting point, cancellation terms and what happens if your flight is delayed. Request any child seat or accessible vehicle explicitly.
“Airport transfer included” is useful only once those details are clear. It is not a flight connection, and it is not the same as a transit “transfer,” which means changing between trains, buses or other services during a journey.
