Compass Card + Mobi: how to link your card and unlock a bike

Pair your Compass Card with Vancouver’s Mobi or Modo, understand separate billing, and check what Rogers’ 2026 free-minute giveaway offers.

Riley Mercer

Your Compass Card can now unlock Mobi by Rogers bikes and Modo shared cars—but it cannot pay for those trips. Link it separately to an active account with each provider you want to use. Transit passes and stored value stay separate from bike-share and car-share billing. The September 2026 integration is an access convenience, not a combined fare or discount. TransLink’s explanation

For a visitor, Mobi is the simpler extra leg to arrange: create an account, choose a plan and pair your card at a bike. Modo requires an approved, active membership and a vehicle booking; carrying Compass alone does not give you access to a car.

Pair Compass with Mobi at a bike

First, create a Mobi account, select your plan and enter your credit-card information. Have your seven-digit user code and four-digit PIN ready.

At a Mobi bike:

  1. Press ENTER to wake it.
  2. Press 1 for “Scan Card.” Skip this step when pairing on an e-bike.
  3. Scan your Compass Card.
  4. Enter your four-digit PIN.
  5. Select YES when asked whether you have a user code.
  6. Enter the seven-digit user code and press ENTER.
  7. Scan Compass again to finish pairing.

These are Mobi’s official pairing instructions. Once paired, Compass replaces your user code as the main access method, but you still need your PIN to unlock a bike. Contact Mobi if you want to switch back to using the code. TransLink’s access notes

For occasional short trips, Mobi currently lists pay-per-ride rates of $1.25 to unlock plus $0.29/minute for classic bikes, or $2 to unlock plus $0.39/minute for e-bikes, before tax. Linking Compass does not change those rates. Mobi pricing

Link Compass with Modo in the app

Once your Modo membership is approved and active, open the Modo app:

  1. Go to Account → Link Compass Card.
  2. Enter the 20-digit Compass Card number.
  3. Tap Save and check for confirmation.

During your booking, tap Compass on the vehicle’s fob reader to unlock and lock it. It is an access token, not a payment method. Modo’s Compass instructions

Book a vehicle before approaching it; an available car can be booked on the spot. Importantly, Modo is round-trip car share: return the vehicle to its own home location, not another Modo parking space near your destination. That makes it suitable for an out-and-back errand after a train journey, rather than a one-way connection. Modo booking rules · Return rules

Connect a SkyTrain trip to the next leg

For a downtown arrival, choose your SkyTrain stop, then use Mobi’s app to check the nearest bike station and available docks at your destination. Use Compass normally for transit, walk to the bike station, then use the paired card and PIN to start the separately billed ride.

You can end a Mobi trip at any station with an available dock. Wait for the beep and “RIDE ENDED” message. Locking the bike with its cable during a café stop does not end the trip—the clock keeps running. Mobi’s ride and return instructions

For Modo, plan the train connection around your booked car’s home location and allow time to return there. Keep the wider day simple by planning Vancouver by district, rather than adding a shared vehicle to every transit journey.

What about Rogers’ free minutes?

Rogers’ September 15 announcement renewed its Mobi partnership through 2029 and promised 200,000 free ride minutes across the remainder of 2026. That is a collective giveaway, not 200,000 minutes for each rider. Rogers announcement

Pairing Compass does not claim the giveaway. The announcement supplies no universal redemption code, per-rider allowance or detailed eligibility rules; it directs riders to follow Rogers and Mobi on social media. Check the terms of an individual offer before relying on free minutes, including whether it covers your bike type or unlock fee. Budget at normal Mobi rates unless you have a confirmed offer on your account.

For pairing, unlocking or billing problems, contact the relevant provider—not Compass Customer Service. If you replace a lost Compass Card, register the replacement separately with Mobi and Modo. TransLink’s support guidance Modo also instructs you to delete the lost card from your Modo account.
